Since we last wrote, there continues to be important developments. The rest of the world is waking up that L.E.N.R. is serious. A recent Forbes article emphasized the maturing of the technology.

And OilPrice.com journalist Brian Westenhaus thinks the industry may have reached the turning point and perhaps the last stages before widespread acceptance. This is further supported by an influx of universities in the US and afield that are now including LENR or Cold Fusion studies in their syllabus.

The 18th International Conference on Cold Fusion (ICCF-18) held last month also provided substantial details of the technology along with deepening understanding of the physics behind it. In practice no-one is yet able to match the COP that Rossi has attained: COP=6, but we hope that all parties do succeed because there is much need for more efficient and environmentally friendly energy sources.

Our focus has continued to be on working with interested parties, discussing their needs and recommending solutions. The following diagram shows the wide applicability of the Rossi E-Cat and Hot-Cat.

Many companies around the globe and in this region are starting to focus on co- and tri- generation, the situation where one heat source is used over and over again. To this end the actual effective COP can be much higher than 6, if one can re-use the heat. A typical co-generation use could be using the initial heat for a food manufacturing process, and the waste heat for a chilling/refrigeration process.

Consider a typical Co-Generation opportunity: Fruit and Veges industry.

Primary Application: Blanching. For this, typically they would be using grid electricity, or Gas. With the E-Cat they would enjoy a COP of 6 (i.e. for every unit of energy previously used, now they can consume just 1/6th of that energy, reducing their bill proportionately). Once used the energy they have consumed is typically wasted.

Secondary Application: By coupling the blanching process and its waste heat, to a chiller system, the company can convert this waste heat into chilling, allowing operation of cold rooms for holding vegetables, at almost no additional energy cost. Assuming a 70% efficiency on this leg, the company might be able to get an additional 50% re-use of the energy (allowing for inefficiencies).

Now the company may also consider that there is a third use for the same energy – output from the Chiller is hot water (approximately 50-70 degrees C). This is ideal for general use in bathrooms and kitchens for washing and cleaning.


Notice from the example table above, that there is substantial improvement of the facility’s energy use. Using the E-Cat, the company may be able to achieve upwards of 10 times the value of the input energy. (note this is a generalized example. Engineers will be able to estimate specific applications which depend on environmental conditions and other factors).

White House Push for LENR?

Speaking today from Argonne’s Advanced Photon Source, President Obama said “I want the next great job-creating breakthroughs, whether it’s in energy or nanotechnology or bio-engineering , I want those breakthroughs to be right here in the United States of America, creating American jobs and maintaining our technological lead.”

There doesn’t seem a better time for LENR traction than the present. Oil prices have stayed high through the Great Recession and advances in directional drilling and hydraulic fracturing of oil shale have opened up the U.S. to be the world’s largest exporter of oil this decade.

President Obama’s clean energy plan proposes to spend $200 million a year on research, would be paid for with revenue from federal oil and gas leases on offshore drilling and would not add to the deficit.

Binding Energy Will Release Us

When Will LENR Go Commercial?

Rumors swirling in the past week about Andrea Rossi’s Ecat are focusing on two major issues: 1) the lack of widespread scientific acceptance of the LENR phenomenon, and 2) Rossi’s unverifiable claims his excess energy production is a byproduct of a working LENR system.

Another European company is moving forward with it’s own LENR reactor it has named Hyperion. Rossi severed ties with this same Greek technology firm, Defkalion Green Technologies, last year after a falling out between the two parties. Since then, Defkalion has openly boasted its reactor will far surpass in power density and output the 1 MW unit that Andrea Rossi is marketing. Like Rossi, Defkalion is looking at commercial availability in late 2012 following approval of product licensing.

Defkalion has even issued a release it will allow third parties to evaluate its core technology: a multi stage LENR reaction between Nickel and Hydrogen.

President Hints at LENR?

In his State of the Union Speech, President Obama may be hinting that the U.S. is committing itself to LENR.  Will Ecats power the White House someday?

“We can also spur energy innovation with new incentives. The differences in this chamber may be too deep right now to pass a comprehensive plan to fight climate change. But there’s no reason why Congress shouldn’t at least set a clean energy standard that creates a market for innovation. So far, you haven’t acted. Well tonight, I will. I’m directing my Administration to allow the development of clean energy on enough public land to power three million homes. And I’m proud to announce that the Department of Defense, the world’s largest consumer of energy, will make one of the largest commitments to clean energy in history – with the Navy purchasing enough capacity to power a quarter of a million homes a year.

Low Energy Nuclear Revolution

By all accounts we could be right on the verge of a pivotal moment in mankind where all of our energy needs will be satisfied by a new, clean, inexpensive and almost limitless source.  More than one scientific camp is vying for history and a Noble Prize, including the enigmatic (or Edisonian) Andrea Rossi, whose Ecat reactor appears to produce excess heat from a low energy nuclear reaction (LENR).

As the technology sits today The Rossi E-Cat is in production facility exploration. Blacklight is making presales, The Australian hint of a technology is said to be nearing a prototype. Many others are closing in on solidifying their ideas into consistency and reliable energy release. It’s a seminal period that looks to be far past the notion LENR is mental magic.

Imagine a world with clean and renewable sources of energy.  Now imagine the source of this energy is in the air you breathe and in the water your drink.

Hydrogen is the most abundant and the most basic element in the universe.  A hydrogen atom contains a single electron and a single proton.  Like many elements, hydrogen is very stable in its ground state, or at its state of lowest energy.  Theoretically, if a hydrogen atom where to shrink and reach an even lower level of energy, a release of some excess energy would occur.

According to Dr. Randell Mills, when a hydrogen atom collides with certain other atoms or ions, it can transfer a quantity of energy to the other atom, shrinking at the same time, creating a so-called “hydrino” in the process.  The atom that it collided with is called the “catalyst”, as it helps the hydrino shrink.  Once a hydrino has formed, it can shrink even further through collisions with other catalyst atoms or even other hydrinos.  Each successive collision results in further shrinkage and each level of shrinkage releases more energy than the previous level.

There is speculation that Andrea Rossi and Dr. Sergio Focardi’s Ecat reactor is creating hydrinos through a novel non-radiative transmutation of hydrogen and nanoparticles of nickel into copper with the help of a proprietary catalyst.  The result, according to their claims, is a release of excess energy in which their device is used to heat water and produce steam.  This steam can then be used to create electricity.

Imagine the possibilities indeed.
