Tom Darden, CEO of Cherokee Investment Partners and Chairman of Industrial Heat, LLC was present at the opening ceremony held on April 16, 2014. Industrial Heat, LLC is the company that acquired the rights to Andrea Rossi’s purported low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) technology, the Energy Catalyzer (E-Cat).
Darden apparently reported research findings at the meeting, that “final report of the pilot phase of the nickel reaction showed low temperature reaction of nickel is currently the lowest cost power generation technology and abundant raw material resources, alternative energy technologies.”
China has been in the news recently as poising itself to be an innovator in the alternative energy sector. As part of a policy shift, the Chinese government is implementing carbon trading, capping energy consumption, resource taxes, new emissions controls and regional coal consumption caps.
In possibly unrelated news, the commodity price of nickel has surged this year with prices rising more than 30% after Indonesia banned the export of nickel ore in January. Buyers in China have been scrambling to secure material for their processing plants, as speculators have rushed in to the market. Chinese News Report
Industrial Heat LLC, a North Carolina company put out a press release today announcing they had acquired the rights to Andrea Rossi’s E-Cat, and were working on plans to commercialize the technology.
IH CEO JT Vaughn stated, “The world needs a new, clean and efficient energy source. Such a technology would raise the standard of living in developing countries and reduce the environmental impact of producing energy,”
The press release says that IH was exploring working with industries, universities and NGOs to help develop and spread the technology. Tom Darden, who co-founded Cherokee Investment Partners, a series of private equity funds specializing in cleaning up pollution, is a founding investor in Industrial Heat.
Vaughn, who is also a senior analyst at Cherokee, confirmed through a press release that IH has acquired the rights to Rossi’s LENR device after a committee of independent European scientists concluded after multiple days of testing at Rossi’s facilities that the device worked.

Since we last wrote, there continues to be important developments. The rest of the world is waking up that L.E.N.R. is serious. A recent Forbes article emphasized the maturing of the technology.
And OilPrice.com journalist Brian Westenhaus thinks the industry may have reached the turning point and perhaps the last stages before widespread acceptance. This is further supported by an influx of universities in the US and afield that are now including LENR or Cold Fusion studies in their syllabus.
The 18th International Conference on Cold Fusion (ICCF-18) held last month also provided substantial details of the technology along with deepening understanding of the physics behind it. In practice no-one is yet able to match the COP that Rossi has attained: COP=6, but we hope that all parties do succeed because there is much need for more efficient and environmentally friendly energy sources.
Our focus has continued to be on working with interested parties, discussing their needs and recommending solutions. The following diagram shows the wide applicability of the Rossi E-Cat and Hot-Cat.
Many companies around the globe and in this region are starting to focus on co- and tri- generation, the situation where one heat source is used over and over again. To this end the actual effective COP can be much higher than 6, if one can re-use the heat. A typical co-generation use could be using the initial heat for a food manufacturing process, and the waste heat for a chilling/refrigeration process.
Consider a typical Co-Generation opportunity: Fruit and Veges industry.
Primary Application: Blanching. For this, typically they would be using grid electricity, or Gas. With the E-Cat they would enjoy a COP of 6 (i.e. for every unit of energy previously used, now they can consume just 1/6th of that energy, reducing their bill proportionately). Once used the energy they have consumed is typically wasted.
Secondary Application: By coupling the blanching process and its waste heat, to a chiller system, the company can convert this waste heat into chilling, allowing operation of cold rooms for holding vegetables, at almost no additional energy cost. Assuming a 70% efficiency on this leg, the company might be able to get an additional 50% re-use of the energy (allowing for inefficiencies).
Now the company may also consider that there is a third use for the same energy – output from the Chiller is hot water (approximately 50-70 degrees C). This is ideal for general use in bathrooms and kitchens for washing and cleaning.
Notice from the example table above, that there is substantial improvement of the facility’s energy use. Using the E-Cat, the company may be able to achieve upwards of 10 times the value of the input energy. (note this is a generalized example. Engineers will be able to estimate specific applications which depend on environmental conditions and other factors). E-Cat Australia and South Asia is working with manufacturers and distributors of allied equipment to assist our clients get additional benefit when they implement an E-Cat or Hot-Cat.

In a recent report titled “Indications of anomalous heat energy production in a reactor device containing hydrogen loaded nickel powder” [arXiv:1305.3913], G. Levi and co-workers put forth several claims concerning the operations and performance of the so-called E-Cat of Andrea Rossi. We note first of all that the circumstances and people involved in the test make if far from being an independent one. We examine the claims put forth by the authors and note that in many cases they are not supported by the facts given in the report. The authors seem to jump to conclusions fitting pre-conceived ideas where alternative explanations are possible. In general we find that much attention is drawn to trivialities while important pieces of information and investigation are lacking and seem not to have been conducted or considered. These are characteristics more typically found in pseudo-scientific texts and have no place in a technical/scientific report on this level. We also note that the proposed claims would require new physics in not only one but several areas. Besides a cold-fusion like process without production of any radiation also extreme new material properties would be needed to explain what rather seems to be a problem of correct measurement. Therefore, it is clear to us that a truly independent and scientific investigation of the so called E-Cat device, convincingly demonstrating an “anomalous heat energy production” has not been presented in the arXiv report and is thus, to-date, still lacking.

Hydro Fusion is looking for a Pilot Customer for the first ECAT 1 MW Plant to operate in Sweden. The customer will only pay for the energy produced by the ECAT, i.e. Hydro Fusion and Leonardo Corporation will take responsibility for all associated costs including: the plant itself, installation and any transportation costs. In return the Pilot Customer agrees upon
Scheduled Installation time by late fall 2013.
Hydro Fusion and Leonardo Corporation to use the Pilot Plant as a Showcase where external customers can be introduced to an ECAT 1 MW in operation.
Hydro Fusion is open to any type of heat application given the restriction of a maximum 120 C temperature. The ECAT’s energy specifications are:

In an audio interview today, Andrea Rossi answered questions on the Ecat, Hot Cat and Leonardo Corporation’s operations in LENR.
1). The military customer has run its Ecat for “many thousands of hours.”
2). The Leonardo Corporation guarantees a COP of 6.
3.) U.S. Partner plans to sell its heat to customer at temperatures of 102-130 C.
4). The Hot Cat works at very good stability at temperatures of 350 C.
5). The infamous Hot Cat photo has leaked under a NDA and was part of a controlled destructive test.
6). 1 gram of mass = 23,000 Megawatt hours. 1 gram of nickel = 23,000 Megawatt hours.
7). Rossi claims they are close to producing electricity.
8). An independent committee of international professors tested a Hot Cat in March for 120 straight hours and will be published in a peer-reviewed journal.
9). Research is primarily in Italy, but with a concentration of operations in the U.S. (Florida). Sweden is in the process of developing manufacturing capabilities as well.
10). There are 106 modules in one 1 Megawatt plant.

Daniele Passerini has posted another candid pic of Andrea Rossi’s “Hot” Cat on his blog. Passerini claims this photograph was taken sometime last year in 2012 and features the red hot device being pushed to its upper limits.
We have also been treated to pictures of the shipping and testing of the 1 MW Ecat plant from Rossi’s Journal of Nuclear Physics. The pictures were taken on April 30 – May 01 when the unit was purportedly transported from Bologna to Ferrara, Italy. Andrea Rossi has stated that this unit has been purchased by an American customer.
Andrea Rossi released a flurry of tantalizing messages last week, reporting a third party independent test of the eCat has concluded and the results will be available by the “middle of April.”
“I met with the 11 professors and experts that made the tests and they were very positive. One of them told me, “We got evidence that the “effect” is real beyond any reasonable doubt.’ …All the professors said the test is gone well, very well….The effect is stunning, we saw in our private tests, and has been replicated by the third independent party.”
Rossi also reported that the industrial 1 megawatt eCat acquired by an unidentified military customer has been available for 90% of the time, or about 8000 hours, with a COP of 6. Rossi reports the home eCat is “years away,” supposedly due to consumer testing and certification requirements.
